Cognitive Hypnotherapy

What’s It All About?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is all about you — your experiences, your goals, and what feels right for you. There’s no ‘one size fits all’ solution because everyone is unique. Instead, we will use a mix of powerful techniques from different disciplines to create a tailored approach that works for each person individually.

This isn’t traditional hypnotherapy — there are no scripts, and we won’t focus on labels. Life experiences shape the way we see ourselves, sometimes in ways that hold us back. But you don’t have to stay stuck in those old patterns. We help you break free from limiting beliefs so you can take charge of your own story. Your past doesn’t define you — what you believe about yourself is yours to choose.

What It Is Not

I will not waft a pocket watch in front of you, make you fall asleep and have you dance like a chicken or eat an onion — although I do love a good dance around to amazing music as a great stressbuster!

How It Works

Our work together will take place either in my therapy room at my home, set in a beautiful and calming woodland environment, or online by a Microsoft Teams video call — whatever suits you best.

Sometimes, we see the world in a way that makes sense to us — like a map helping us find our way. But maps don’t show everything, and sometimes what we believe isn’t the full story. By staying curious and open to new ideas, we can learn more, see things in new ways, and discover exciting possibilities we might not have noticed before!

Together we will map out your journey to a solution.

FAQs

  • Cognitive hypnotherapy brings together techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with the gentle power of hypnosis to support meaningful change. By identifying unhelpful thought patterns and working with the subconscious mind, it helps shift thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a positive and lasting way.

  • In our sessions, we’ll explore where your anxiety may have started, and gently work on seeing that experience or belief in a new light. Along the way, I’ll share simple techniques you can use anytime—so you’ll have calming tools to support you, even outside of the therapy space.

  • Everyone’s journey is unique - but because my approach is solution focused, many people start to notice positive changes within 4 to 6 sessions. Some feel a shift even sooner, while others may take a little longer—and that’s absolutely okay. Between sessions, the work gently continues, helping you move steadily and confidently towards the changes you’re hoping for.

  • Absolutely. Hypnosis is a bit like daydreaming or getting really caught up in a story. Your body feels relaxed, and your mind becomes focused—kind of like when you're so deep in thought you don’t even notice what’s going on around you.

The “trance” part just means being in that calm, focused state. You're still in control the whole time—you can hear everything and even talk if you want to—but your mind is more open to positive ideas, helpful suggestions, and new ways of thinking. Some people say it feels like being in a cosy bubble, where your imagination can do a little exploring and find new ways to feel better.

  • Yes I work online (using Microsoft Teams) or I work from my home therapy room which is based in the Chesham, Bucks area.

  • As a member of the NCH, QCHPA and CNHC there are certain people who I cannot work with. Unfortunately I will be unable to work with you if you have any of the following conditions: Psychosis (Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia), or Epilepsy. If you’re already working with another therapist, it’s usually best to wait before starting sessions with me. Mixing approaches can sometimes get in the way of the progress we’re aiming for together, and I want to make sure you get the most from your sessions.

  • £80 for 1 x 1-hour session
    £210 for 3 x 1-hour sessions
    £400 for 6 x 1-hour sessions

If paying by bank or card, payment needs to be made in advance of the session — you will receive an invoice before each session with my bank details. Cash can also be accepted and will need to be given before the session starts.

If you need to cancel a session I require 24 hours notice or the session fee will need to be settled in full.

  • I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation where we can have a chat and talk through any questions you might have. If you’d like to arrange a free consultation, please get in touch here.
